In an era where technological advancements have become the cornerstone of

progress across industries, the medical world stands as no exception. The

evolving landscape of healthcare demands innovative solutions that not only

streamline processes but also enhance patient care. Taiwan, a global leader in

technology, has emerged as a driving force in catering to these changing

needs through cutting-edge innovations that are revolutionizing modern

medicine.

To further boost this revolution, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, established the

Taiwan Excellence Awards in 1993. This award recognises brands that are

shaping industries worldwide. Every year, selected brands are subjected to a

rigorous and stringent selection system that covers four major aspects of “R&D”,

“Design”, “Quality” and “Marketing” to identify outstanding products that offer

“Innovative Value” while satisfying the key criterion of being “made in Taiwan”.

Products that win recognition then serve as examples of the domestic industries

and are promoted by the government in the international market in order to

shape the creative image for Taiwanese businesses.

Two such award-winning products that make healthcare more efficient are

Medical-Grade All-in-One Computers by Advantech Co., Ltd. and Bidirectional

Power Supply with Energy Recycle Function by Mean Well.

POC-4 series, by Advantech Co., Ltd. is a collection of medical-grade point-of-

care (POC) terminals that cater to the unique needs of clinical rooms,

medication management, laboratories, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and

healthcare applications. To ensure safety and stability, POC-4 series is compliant

with IEC/EN60601-1 and IEC/EN60601-1-2 medical safety standards for electrical

devices. POC-4 devices can also be upgraded with IP65-rated protection which will protect it from water & dust ingress. This will ensure reliable operation and easy cleaning.

POC-4 series adopted the world’s first multimodal concept in mechanical

design. Through a modular back cover, POC-4 could transform different CPU

modalities with various sizes and functions. This flexibility and ease of

configuration shortens the equipment development and installation time. This

also minimizes maintenance costs and optimizes operational workflow. When it

comes to software, POC-4 series also adopted Advantech DeviceOn, which

used zero-touch technology offering precise maintenance and inspection

schedule based on AI technology.

The second product aims to help meet the increasing demand for batteries.

BIC-2200, MEAN WELL’s first bidirectional power supply that comes with full safety

standards and energy recycle function. This product aims to replace the 2 units

ordinarily used in the battery manufacturing process with just one single unit. This

battery can not only deliver AC power to the DC, but when the DC needs to be

discharged, it also converts the DC energy back to the AC grid for use by

surrounding equipment in the plant, thus realizing a peak shaving or raising

energy usage efficiency.

In the meantime, BIC-2200 has completed various safety checks (TUV/UL/CE) for

worldwide sales and design, equipped with CANBus protocol to meet the goal

of smart factory automation. It offers 1ms switching time accompanied with 93%

efficiency that the products can achieve 19W/in3 high power density, which

also helps in lowering the cost of the system.

Taiwan’s contributions are more than innovations; they are solutions that

redefine the essence of care. With a steadfast focus on simplifying complexity

and improving outcomes, Taiwan is not merely embracing the changing needs

of the medical world – it is spearheading them.
