Abstract:
Too many infrastructure as a service (IaaS) providers have taken the view that cloud computing is a race to the bottom in terms of feature commoditization and pricing. While one advantage of IaaS over traditional IT can be cost reduction, there are many other requirements that should not be forgotten. Saving a few pennies per hour on a per-CPU basis is clearly not a good value when the tradeoff is increased risk of losing corporate data. This report introduces the unique benefits of cloud computing, provides additional background on the most accepted types of cloud computing, and lists the top five concerns of those considering IaaS for production workloads. Finally, one particular solution — OpSource Cloud — is introduced and evaluated from the perspective of enterprise IT requirements.
